Ontario cutting off internet gambling ads

It has been confirmed that the local government in Ontario has tightened its grip on online gambling advertisements. According to the passed bill, online businesses which run advertisement for online gambling intended for Ontario residents are no longer able to do it. Search engine queries were excluded from the interpretation for advertisement, however, websites, TV, radio and paper publications are no longer allowed to run ads for internet gambling websites.

This will definitely hurt websites and social networks run by Ontario residents which focus on net gambling. Websites which originate elsewhere, and do not intentionally advertise to local residents remain unaffected. Another form of illegal online gambling advertisement becomes a link on a website which promotes web gambling. Therefore this bill hurts the local website owners, not the websites from outside the province, despite the exact opposite intentions of the law makers.
