Turkey to stop online gambling

Leading Turkish newspapers have been reporting that a law which has been meant to protect children online and stop indecent broadcastings, have been extended to reach online gambling, as well. The method which will be used is to block requests for websites on ISP level, which the government of the country deems inappropriate and harmful to its citizens.

Turkey has been trying really hard to become a member of the European Union, and with more countries in Europe legalizing online gambling, this will not help them at all, especially while the European Trade Commission is really pushing hard for E.U. wide legalizing of online gambling sites. This also could be seen as a move by the religious part of the country to enforce "spiritual laws" into the everyday life of the citizens, as the Koran prohibits gambling in all forms.
