Kentucky Derby - the top contenders of the 2007
race
Today we will follow up on the
133rd edition of the Kentucky Derby with information on the top
contenders in the race. The Derby starts on Saturday, May 5th 2007.
To find out which those top
ten horses may be, we looked at the future betting odds of
Bodog Horse Racing. The top
contenders of the Kentucky Derby are organized by the best
betting odds, starting with the most favorite to win the race.
Curlin:
Odds 3/1. Born on 03.25.2004 of
Smart Strike ('92) and Sheriff's Deputy ('94) has graded
earnings of $780,000 and a race record of 3-3-0-0. Curlin has
won all of his last three races - Arkansas Derby (GII), Rebel (GIII)
and Maiden at Gulfstream. The trainer of Curlin, Steve Asmussen,
won record number of races in 2004 - 555 and has had five
starters in the Kentucky Derby. Robby Albarado will ride Curlin
for the 133rd edition of the Kentucky Derby. Albarado has
participated in the Derby a total of 8 times, with his best
performance last year when he finished 3rd riding Steppenwolfer.
Street Sense:
Odds 6/1. Born on 02.23.2004 of
Street Cry and Bedazzle and has a total earnings of $1,482,000
and race record 7-3-2-2. Street Sense finished a tight second on
his last race at Toyota Blue Grass (GI), but he won the
previous two - Tampa Bay Derby (GIII) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile
(GI). His Texan trainer Carl Nafzger took his Thoroughbred
training license in 1968 and won the Kentucky Derby in 1990.
Rider of Street Sense will be Calvin Borel who ranked among the
top 30 jockeys last year, wining over $6 million in purses.
Circular Quay:
Odd to win 7/1. Born on
02.26.2004 of Thunder Gulch and Circle of Life, Circular Quay
has earning of $1,116,134 and race record of 7-4-2-0,
winning his last race at Louisiana Derby (GII), but finished 5th
at Risen Star (GIII) and second to Street Sense at Breeders' Cup
Juvenile (GI). Todd Pletcher from Texas is the trainer and has
not won a Kentucky Derby yet, but took second place last year
with Bluegrass Cat. Circular Quay wil be ridden by John
Velazquez who has raced in seven of the Kentucky Derbies, with
best place - second in 2001.
Nobiz Like Shobiz:
Betting odds 8/1. Nobiz Like
Shobiz was born on January 29th 2004 of BayColt and Nightstorm
bred by Elizabeth Valando from Kentucky and winnings of
$778,500, race record 6-4-1-1. In his last three races prior to
the Kentucky Derby, Nobiz Like Shobiz took 1st place at the Wood
Memorial and Holy Bull (GIII) and finished 3rd at Fountain of
Youth (GII). The trainer of Nobiz Like Shobiz is MR.Barclay Tagg,
who trained the 2003 Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide. Jockey
will be Cornelio Velasquez of Panama who has participated in
three Derbies before.
Scat Daddy:
Odds 8/1. Born on 05.11.2004 of
Dark Bay and Love Style, Scat Daddy holds a race record of
8-5-1-1 and graded earnings of $1,308,500. Prior the winnings of
his last two races at Florida Derby (GI) and Fountain of Youth (GII),
Scat Daddy finished 3rd at Holy Bull (GIII). Todd Pletcher is
the trainer of Scat Daddy, as well. Edgar Prado, a native of
Peru, is riding Scat Daddy at the Kentucky Derby this year. He
is the winner of last year's Kentucky Derby 132 and has
participated in a total of seven Derbies in his career.
