Horse racing at
Haydock, Beverley, Stratford and more
The following U.K. racecourses have events on
Saturday, May 26th, some overviews of horse races at those
tracks included.
Haydock
Racecourse: First race starts at 2.05 and the last one is at
4.40
Overview of the first race at Haydock: Buachaill Dona can
foil the follow-up bid of Sierra Vista, with Corridor Creeper
and River Falcon other noteworthy contenders. Sierra Vista is
sure to have her supporters following an all the way success
over the course-and-distance a fortnight ago, but that was a
conditions event in which she received weight all round. Today
she has to give a few pounds away to all bar Orientor, and
preference is for Buachaill Dona, winner of three of his five
starts last term, and who shaped well when a close fourth on his
reappearance at York eight days ago. That was over six furlongs,
and the way that he faded in the closing stages very much
suggests that the drop back to the minimum will be in his favour
here. The 2005 winner Corridor Creeper has to be respected off a
4lb lower mark, while Jim Goldie, successful with Indian Spark
seven years ago, is double-handed with the aforementioned
Orientor and River Falcon who has been knocking at the door.
Richard Fahey won this event in 1999 with Night Flight and you
can bet that Philharmonic will be plenty fit enough on his
return, but our vote goes to Buachaill Dona.

Beverley Racecourse: First horse race
is at 2.00 and the last one at 4.35
Overview at the 2.00 horse race at Beverley: In the
opener, Irving Place is selected ahead of Prime Performer and
Gain Share. Angle Of Attack showed plenty of promise when fifth
at York on his debut after running green. Daring Dream cost
49,000 euros and could be interesting on his debut. Frizzini is
a 16,000 guineas son of Bertolini, while Gain Share's debut
Newcastle fifth was not devoid of promise and he too has to be
considered. Irving Place has finished second on each of his
starts to date and, with the form rating as solid in the context
of this contest, he too has to be on your list of probables.
Note Perfect's debut eighth at Haydock behind Janina was
promising and, being a 25,000 guineas son of Acclamation, Prime
Performer is an interesting newcomer, while Revue Princess is
also of some interest being a 13,000 euros daughter of Mull Of
Kintyre that is related to winners. Overall, though, the vote
goes to Irving Place.
Stratford Racecourse: Racing starts at
5.45 and ends at 8.20
The 2.10 horse race at Stratford: Pearl King gets the
call over Stoop To Conquer, Tysou and Ellerslie Tom, with Wee
Dinns also on the short-list. Basically this is wide-open, but
Pearl King looks to have a light enough weight compared to his
chase mark, and with Tony McCoy on board, the Philip Hobbs
inmate is the pick to get last month's losses back. The
five-year-old has been in good form over fences, but a mark of
135 proved too high at Ayr, and he will be much more comfortable
off his current hurdles perch of 115. Stoop To Conquer has been
beaten twice on the Flat since scoring over hurdles at Kempton,
and he will be more at home here as well, while Tysou is having
his first outing over timber for three years, and although
capable, is not that kindly treated compared to his stablemate
Capitana, the mount of Mick Fitzgerald. Ellerslie Tom has
topweight to overcome but has won over the course-and-distance
in the past, and Wee Dinns represents the Pipe-Scudamore
combination that have been in good form lately. The list is
endless in such an open affair, but we shall side with Pearl
King.
More horse racing on Saturday will take place
at Sprint Valley, Cartmel, Stratford and Steepledowns. You can
