Horse races today at Leicester, Redcar, Chepstow and Cartmel

Today, May 28th, there will be horse racing at the racecourses below, overview of first race included.

Horse races today at Leicester, Redcar, Chepstow and CartmelLeicester Racecourse: First horse race at 2.00, last at 4.55

Overview of the race at 2.00: Russian Epic is the pick in the opener, with Mabaahej, Sky Masterson and Doyles Lodge seen as the main dangers. The winner should come from that quartet, although in truth none of them has impressed a great deal yet. Russian Epic probably boasts the strongest form, having finished a very close second at Newmarket nine days ago, and the Michael Jarvis inmate need only improve a fraction to go one better. Sky Masterson started his career with a sixth to Friday's Newmarket winner Chantilly Tiffany in the Wood Ditton, but has found one too good twice on the all-weather since then. He looks nothing special, while Mabaahej failed to pick up when asked at Kempton and needs more time. Doyles Lodge finished well when runner-up over seven furlongs at Kempton, and although that form is nothing to write home about, he will at least relish the extra distance here. Any support for newcomer Taghreed should be heeded, but in a race in which most are destined to go handicapping sooner rather than later, Russian Epic is the pick.

Redcar Racecourse: First horse race starts at 2.05, last one at 5.00

Overview of the 2.05 horse race: Wigram's Turn is an interesting newcomer from the Andrew Balding yard, however we will side with the more experienced Diademas, with Artdeal the pick of the others. Diademas represents the in form Jamie Osborne yard and was most impressive when successful last time out. He comfortably pulled clear of what looked a decent enough field at Southwell and if as effective on turf he will prove hard to beat. Artdeal didn't handle Chester last time out but had previously shown great determination to win at Beverley he looks the obvious threat to the selection. Wigram's Turn has a nice American pedigree and hails from a yard that can easily get one ready first time out, the market should give clues to his fitness. However it is hard to go against Diademas on that Southwell running and he gets our confident vote.

Chepstow Racecourse: First horse race begins at 2.20, last race starts at 5.15

Overview of the first Chepstow horse race: Golden Platitude failed to build on a promising debut effort when well held at Goodwood earlier this month on his second start and Walter Swinburn's gelding may be best watched here with a better bet looking to be Atraas, who gets the vote ahead of First Princess. The last mentioned is becoming rather exposed but did run back up to a reasonable level of form when chasing home Cavort at Wolverhampton recently and has solid place claims at least. Spinal Tap disappointed last time having shown signs of ability on his debut, while Halkerston may have improved from two to three and represents the yard of Clive Cox that has been in good form this term. Luca Cumani's Arabiyah may need more time and a safer bet looks to be Marcus Tregoning's Atraas who showed fair form on each of his two starts as a juvenile and a reproduction of either run may suffice on his first start at three.

Cartmel Racecourse: Horse racing starts at 2.25, last horse race begins at 5.20

Overview of the first horse race at 2.25: Artic John gets the vote in the opener with Tra Beg, and Solway Bee rating the the main dangers. The selection was a fair second behind Keepisecret last time out, that form looks solid in the context of this race and under similar conditions he looks the one to be on. Solway Bee rates the main danger on his latest second behind Leg Spinner this looks easier and with his yard in form he should be watched in the market. Tra Beg has shown little but is from a shrewd yard is dropped in class and could go well at a price. Of the remainder Iloveturtle is game and consistent and is sure to run his race but he looks weighted up to his best. Of the remainder Rightful Ruler showed improved form last time out but would not want much rain and with this in mind for the winner we return to Artic John to small stakes.
