First race starts at 6:20 - Hamburger Union
Handicap , for Amateur Riders, (Cl6)
Race Overview: The Gaikwar won well three days ago and if
in the same frame of mind he can score again at the main expense
of Murumbidgee and The Grey One. Having won over course and
distance before, the selection goes well on the ground and was
very impressive just three days ago at Chepstow. He travelled
well and then quickened clear to win in good fashion and if on
song once again he may take some stopping. Dispol Veleta should
come on for a decent fourth three weeks ago and should be
considered along with the consistent Foolish Charm. Charlie Bear
will need to forget his poor last run if he is to trouble the
judge today, so of more interest may be Murumbidgee. He has
found just one too good on his last two starts and despite
creeping up the weights, he looks a real threat. The Grey One
has ability but doesn't always put it all in, and so for the
winner we are happy to return to The Gaikwar.
6:50 Soil Association European Breeders' Fund
Maiden Stakes (Cl5)
Race Overview: As is so often the case the market will
help guide to the chances of the newcomers, however Nawaaff made
a pleasing debut at York in a better race than this and can win
today at the main expense of Barbarossa and Bobs Surprise. The
selection was only beaten just over a length on debut and with
ground conditions similar today, he looks worth siding with. The
time of that race was decent and with nominal improvement (was
green on debut), he should take plenty of beating. Richard
Hannon's pair Barbarossa and Mymumsaysimthebest are of interest
on their debuts, the former looks the pick on jockey bookings.
Vigano should come on for his debut run but will need to to play
a part here, whilst Amanda Perrett's horses are in good form so
Lisselan Prospect must be considered, although the stable aren't
renowned for first time out winners. Captain Esteem and Bobs
Surprise represent the in-form Barry Hills and the market will
help guide their chances but both are bred to be effective over
this trip at two. Nawaaff though has solid form and gets the
confident selection.
7:20 Hildon Stakes, Registered As The Tapster
Stakes, Listed Race (Cl1)
Race Overview: This Listed contest can go to Day Flight
ahead of Group Captain and Steppe Dancer. John Gosden has his
stable in good form at present and his horse handles all types
of ground which may benefit if the rain comes. He stays this
trip well and having won half of his 14 races so far, he can add
to that tally here on a course he has run well at before. He was
turned over at long odds-on last time but this should be a truer
run race and he will benefit from a true pace. Shahin is
unexposed however he has twenty pounds to find with some of
these. Steppe Dancer is consistent and must go on the shortlist.
As a hold up horse he will be more at home on this track than at
Chester last time out. Into The Dark should be all the better
for his recent outing when well beaten and the stables horses
will hit top gear soon. Alfie Flits is a galloper and will
appreciate the return to this trip, whilst Group Captain is very
consistent and wasn't far behind the selection last time out. He
will love any further rain and must be considered, however Day
Flight is the class act and can get his head back in front.
7:50 Organic Research Centre Stakes, Handicap
(Cl5)
8:20 Ecologist Stakes, Handicap, (Cl4)
Race Overview: Shout wasn't beaten far just ten days ago
and can make amends today with victory. Fort Churchill is now
back to near a winning mark so makes the shortlist along with
Lisathedaddy. The selection can be hit and miss at times but
John Hills' filly ran well in defeat last time out and a repeat
of that effort may be enough today. She stays further than this
so will relish a truly run race and can win today. Fort
Churchill hasn't been disgraced in better races than this one of
late and is now only 1lb above his highest winning mark. He
won't mind any further rain either. Lisathedaddy is a consistent
mare and Brendan Powell's runner cannot be ruled out, although
she does continue to edge up the weights. Punta Galera is
well-weighted on old form and should be monitored for signs of
confidence in the betting. Jamaahir should have come on for his
recent run at Newbury so bears consideration, whilst Cape Greko
is well by the selection on that run ten days ago. A tricky race
for punters, however Shout can land the spoils.
Last race is at 8:55 - Goodwood Farm Shop
