Jacque Jones trade
to Florida a bust, still with the Cubs
Chicago Cubs general
manager Jim Hendry told Jacque Jones he will not be going to
Florida.
Cubs GM admitted that the deal was close, but that it fell apart
after Hendry had time to think about the trade that would have
sent Jacque Jones and a large portion of his remaining salary to
Florida for a minor-league prospect.
Hendry continued: "At the end of the
day, I just wasn't going to be rushed into it and make a deal
that I didn't think was good for us. We just couldn't kind of
round it off and finish it. I've had some honest conversations
with Jacque, and he knows where I stand. I told him I always do
what's best for the Cubs first. He knows that, and I think he's
comfortable with how I've gone about it."
There is still a possibility that Jacque
Jones will be dealt before the deadline of July 31st.
The Cubs put closer Ryan Dempster on the
15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with a left
oblique strain. The team also transferred pitcher Wade Miller to
the 60-day DL.
The Chicago Cups will play Colorado Rockies on
Wednesday, with betting odds on the Cubs at -190, according to
the online betting website
Bodog Sports.
