transfer to Liverpool in good health
After passing his medical on
Thursday, Fernando Torres is ready to join Liverpool in a record
$53.4 million deal.
On Wednesday morning, the 23-year-old striker will pay
tribute to the Atletico Madrid fans, after his medical exam
labeled him fit to join Liverpool. The six-year contract will
cost the Reds over 26 million pounds and is the largest amount
Liverpool has forked out for a contract of such time-frame.
According to a press release by the Spanish club, n agreement on
all terms have been reached and the transfer is good to go.
Part of the deal funding will come from
the Luis Garcia transfer to Atletico for $10 million, completed
earlier this week.
Fernando Torres has scored 14 times in
36 games for Atletico Madrid and the team finished seventh in
the Spanish League last season. He was the youngest player of
the Spanish team, and the youngest to become a captain at only
19-years-old. Fernando Torres has been with Atletico Madrid his
whole career, first starting in the Youth club, and in 2001 he
joined the senior team, where he has been playing number 9,
until the Liverpool transfer.
After joining Liverpool, Torres will get a
paycheck of around $180,000 each week.
First game of the Premiership for Liverpool
