Nicole Richie
spends only an hour in jail
Nicole Richie spend only 82
minutes in jail for her DUI offense, before being released.
Nicole
Richie was sentenced to four days in jail, but due to
over-crowding, she was released a little earlier than the 90
hours she was in for. Her sentence came as a result of driving
under the influence on the wrong side of the highway in L.A.
Richie was already awarded one day time-served for sitting 6
hours in jail. She avoided an year in jail after a plea bargain,
as this was Richie's second DUI offense.
According to the website of the L.A
Sheriff’s Department, Nicole Richie entered Lynwood Correctional
Facility at 3.15 p.m. PST on Thursday and was released at 4.37
p.m. due to over-crowding in the facility. This is the same jail
where Paris Hilton also did time and was also released early for
the same reasons, then brought back.
A statement from the sheriffs'
department noted that federal guidelines mandate arrestees
sentenced to 30 days or less for a nonviolent offense could be
released within 12 hours if the jail is overcrowded.
Earlier today, another
celebrity-gone-criminal, Lindsay Lohan stuck a lucky plea
bargain with the prosecution and was sentenced to only 1 day in
jail, serve 10 days of community service and complete a drug
treatment program.
