Starting with the NY Jets vs. Houston
Texans, we will take a look at the spread and betting odds at
two of the most popular online sportsbooks. Will the absence of
Brett Favre take the edge out of the rebuilt Jets or will Mark
Sanchez be able to deliver against the Texans this weekend?
According to the online sports betting website
Bookmaker, the Jets have no
chance - the odds makers have listed the Texans as big -230
favorite to win the home game, while the Jets are underdog with
odds +190. The Jets vs. Texans point spread is currently
at -4.5 points chalk Houston and the total for the game is set
by the bookmakers at 44 points. The story is exactly the same at
another top online sportsbook,
Bodog Sports, where the Texans
will also attempt to cover -4.5 spread. For the NY Jets
defensive end Shaun Ellis and linebacker Calvin Pace are out,
but running back Shonn Greene and wide receiver Wallace Wright
both did a full practice on Thursday and are expected to
participate in the Jets vs. Texans match-up. At Houston wide
receiver Kevin Walter missed practice, but QB Matt Schaub did a
full one on Thursday after an ankle scare.
Moving to the spread and odds on the
next NFL game, the Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
where the odds makers are giving even more lean on the 'Boys.
The last time the two teams met in October of 08, the Cowboys
took a 13-9 victory, but the sportsbooks are even more confident
in the Cowboys this time around - the guys at Bookmaker have set
the odds on the Cowboys to win that game at -275, while the
Buccaneers are a big Week 1 underdog with odds +235 to win their
opener at home in Tampa Bay. The Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay
Buccaneers point spread is currently favoring the Cowboys at
-6, while the total expected in the game is at low 39 points.
For Dallas, linebackers Curtis Johnson and Jason Williams both
missed Thursday practice still nursing injuries. At Tampa Bay
the list of players absent from Thursday practice include tight
end John Gilmore, linebacker Adam Hayward and defensive end Kyle
Moore, while wide receivers Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton
did a limited one.
