2009 Preakness
Stakes odds: Opening odds on the Preakness Stakes
Just one week until the start of the
2009 Preakness Stakes horse race and the bookmakers have posted
the opening odds on the second leg of the Triple Crown. Right
off the bat we will start with the most asked question - what
are the odds on Mine That Bird to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes?
Surprise, the winner of the 09 Kentucky Derby is not the
favorite contender to win the 134th run of the Preakness Stakes
next week! Many may be surprised, but a lot of the bettors are
actually happy to hear that, considering the hefty payout on
Mine That Bird last week, winning the Derby with 50/1 odds.
For the opening 2009 Preakness Stakes
odds we went to our favorite online racebook,
Bodog Sports (official website),
a bookmaker which made quite a few people happy last week. At
Bodog the 2009 Preakness Stakes favorite contender is Rachel
Alexandra, listed with EVEN odds to win the Stakes run next
Saturday and according to some of the rumors coming out of the
bookie, those odds could even turn "negative" by next week, i.e.
you will get paid less than what you've bet. Again, good news
for the fans of Mine That Bird, who comes second on the
betting sheets with 9/2 odds to win the Preakness Stakes. Making
a bundle for a few lucky bettors last week, you know the same
people will bet again on Mine That Bird to win the 2009
Preakness Stakes and with 9/2 odds - still a very good payout on
a Derby winner.
Pioneer of the Nile comes third on the
2009 Preakness Stakes odds. The 3-year-old us listed with 5/1
odds to win the race on Saturday and is followed by Friesan
Fire, who is sitting on 6/1 odds to win, the same odds posted on
Musket Man. Papa Clem is doing better on the Preakness Stakes
odds list with 8/1, followed by General Quarters with 9/1 odds
to win the 09 Preakness. Feeling super lucky? The Preakness
Stakes underdog this year is Tone It Down with 45/1 odds on
victory at Pimlico and Terrain is at 25/1. And according to the
bookmaker - the odds on having a Triple Crown winner, i.e. Mine
That Bird to win the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, are at the
whopping +800, while the opposite will pay out on -1600 odds.
Here is the complete list of 2009
Preakness Stakes betting odds as posted by the online
sportsbook
Bodog Sports:
Big Drama - 16/1
Conservative - 14/1
Flying Private - 16/1
Friesan Fire - 6/1
General Quarters - 9/1
Hull - 14/1
Mine That Bird - 9/2
Musket Man - 6/1
Papa Clem - 8/1
Pioneer of The Nile - 5/1
Rachel Alexandra - 1/1
Take The Points - 20/1
Terrain - 25/1
Tone It Down - 45/1
Of course those Preakness odds will
change quite a bit as bettors being wagering on the second leg
of the Triple Crown. As we always urge our readers - plan and
bet ahead of time if you see odds you really like. For example,
we doubt that the odds on Mine That Bird will remain the same
for too long. Everyone who bet on Mine That Bird to win the
Derby will undoubtedly bet again on the colt to win the
Preakness Stakes, as well, which will drive the odds on the
Derby winner even shorter than they are now. And we've already
mentioned the rumor that the Preakness odds on Rachel Alexandra
will change as well. Therefore it's a good idea to put in your
box, exacta and trifecta bets early. Stay with us this week as
we take a look at the 2009 Preakness Stakes top contenders, the
latest odds and news from Pimlico.
