2007 Breeders Cup
Classic betting odds and top contenders
A few days left until the
start of the 2007 Breeder's Cup World Championship and we look
at the top contenders and their betting odds to win the race.
A
few days left until the gates open at the 2007 Breeders Cup
Classic and now is the best time for bettors all over the
world to join in on the action. Let's take a look at who the top
contenders are for the 2007 Breeders Cup and for the $5 million
purse, as posted on the horse racing betting website
Bodog Racing (new window).
There are plenty of familiar thoroughbreds here which were
favorite contenders for the Triple Crown not too long ago.
The top favorite by betting odds is once
again Curlin with odds to win the 2007 Breeders Cup
Classic at 3/1. Curlin earned an automatic bid into the Breeders
Cup Classic when he finished a neck ahead of Lawyer Ron in a
stretch dual in the Grade I Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont
Park. In August Curlin was the favorite but finished third in
the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park behind Any Given
Saturday and Hard Spun. His best achievement this year was
winning the 2007 Preakness Stakes on May 19. Trainer is Steve
Asmussen.
But Lawyer Ron will be tough
competitor for the 2007 Breeders Cup, listed also with odds 3/1
on winning next Sunday. At the beginning Bob Holthus was
training Lawyer Ron, but since October last year his new trainer
is Todd Pletcher. Recently Lawyer Ron won the Woodward Stakes
and a few weeks prior won the 2007 Whitney Stakes by setting a
track record. In 2006 Lawyer Ron finished 9th at the Breeders
Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.
"Any Given Saturday" is back in
the game as the third best bet at Bodog, the odds are paying out
7/2. He is another thoroughbred trained by Todd Pletcher, with
record 6-2-1 and earnings over $1 million. On August 5th at
Monmouth Park Any Given Saturday won the Grade I Haskell
Invitational Handicap by beating Curlin and Hard Spun by over
four lengths. Any Given Saturday also won the Brooklyn Handicap
in August by two and a half lengths.
Right now those were the top three
contenders with best odds on winning the 2007 Breeder's Cup
Classic. Other good bets include Street Sense listed at
4/1, Hard Spun at 6/1 and George Washington with odds
10/1. We will continue to follow the latest developments and
odds change for the 2007 Breeders Cup World Championship and
publish them as they come.
