The
New York Knicks got their roster down to the regular-season
limit of 15 today, after cutting guards Demetris Nichols, Jared
Jordan, and Walker Russell. Demetris Nichols was drafted this
year fro Syracuse in the second round, 53rd overall, by the
Portland Trail Blazers, but was immediately traded to the Knicks
for a second-round draft pick next year. Nichols averaged 18.9
points for the Syracuse Orange last season and was All Big East
Team in 2007. The Knicks were working on a deal to send Demetris
Nichols to Europe for the 07-08 season, but the young player
refused.
Point guard Jared Jordan was initially
picked up by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2007 draft from
Marist College, but was traded to the Knicks at the end of
September for cash considerations. Jordan averaged 4.5 minutes
in six preseason games with the NY Knicks. Walker Russell Jr.
(picture) attended Chipola Junior College, FL before spending
his final two collegiate seasons at Jacksonville State where he
led the team in scoring, assists and free-throw percentage as a
senior.
