No pit stops for
Jimmie Johnson on the way to the Chase checker
Jimmie Johnson wins the Texas
Dickies 500 to extend his lead over Jeff Gordon to 30 points in
the Chase standings.
Battling
Matt Kenseth till the end, Jimmie Johnson won the Dickies 500
and celebrated the Texas way - with a cowboy hat and a pair of
pistols. The win at Texas Motor Speedway was third consecutive
for Johnson in the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship
and he extended his lead over teammate Jeff Gordon to 30 points.
Only two races remaining and Jimmie Johnson is already well on
his way to become the first repeat champion, since Jeff Gordon
97-98 double. "That was tough racing. Matt was crowding me
and I was trying to move him up a little bit and we were doing
all that at 190 miles an hour. It was pretty intense,"
said Jimmie Johnson after the victory on Sunday, "It's so
tough from year to year to think about a repeat. I do know that
we're racing for the championship and now we have control of
it."
The remaining two races are at
Phoenix next week and on the 18th at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
