Initially the bookies made Jose Mourinho the best bet for the job, but after Mourinho and then Martin O'Neill reportedly denying that they are interested, their odds on getting the job were quickly lengthened and Fabio Capello became the frontrunner. But even though O'Neill and Mourinho appear shy to manage England, the bookmakers are still placing the two high in the props list. Jose Mourinho comes second with odds on becoming the next England manager at 9/2, followed by Martin O'Neill posted at 8/1.

Alan Shearer is another name you can hear from the English fans these days, but he is ranking 6th by odds at 14/1, passed by Harry Redknapp and Rafael Benitez, both with odds 12/1 to coach England at Bet 365. "Managerial markets are always volatile in the early days but denials are not always what they seem," said Graham Sharpe, spokesman for William Hill, who offers 2/1 that the next coach will be Englishman and 4/11 that he won't.
