Houston Texans assistant coach
Mike Sherman to take over head coach job at Texas A&M.
One
of the top three college football coaching jobs appears to be
filled already. Just three days after Dennis Franchione resigned
as head coach for the Texas A&M, it was announced on Monday that
Mike Sherman, currently assistant coach in the Houston Texans
team, will be taking over the reins.
Sherman could prove to be a good choice
for the Aggies, after coaching the offensive line from 1989-93
and in 1995-96. In 1996 he left Texas A&M to take an assistant
job with the Green Bay Packers. In 2000 Mike Sherman became the
head coach of the Packers and led the team to two of the Packers
four highest-scoring seasons in franchise history. He spent the
last two seasons as an assistant coach to the Houston Texans and
will remain at his current position until the end of the NFL
season, but said that he is eager to start with Texas A&M and
will begin calling recruits as early as today.
