Sean Taylor has died in the hospital after Monday's shooting.
Tragic
news from Florida - the wounded Washington Redskins safety Sean
Taylor has died on Tuesday in the Miami hospital, where he
received treatment for a gunshot wound. Taylor was shot in the
early hours on Monday morning in what the police are calling a
suspected robbery. According to reports, Sean Taylor was in his
Miami-Dade house with his girlfriend and his 1-year-old
daughter, when a robber entered the house. Awaken from the
noise, Taylor went to check it out, taking a machete he kept
under his bed. When he confronted the robber, two shots were
fired, one of them striking the Redskins safety in the upper
leg, piercing his femoral artery and leading to a massive blood
loss. He was airlifted to Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital for
treatment and his condition was listed as critical yesterday.
Some reports indicate that Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand, but
he never regained consciousness and passed away on Tuesday. The
exact time of death has not been confirmed yet.
Sean Taylor was drafted in 2004 by the
Washington Redskins from the University of Miami, in the first
round, fifth overall pick, then signed a seven-year $18 million
contract with the Redskins. This season he was the top
interceptor for the Redskins, but a knee injury sidelined him in
the past two games. According to the Washington Redskins, he was
in Miami to recover from the knee injury.
