Wisconsin Badgers
to play in the Outback Bowl
Outback Bowl organizers have
invited the Wisconsin Badgers to play, they accept.
The Wisconsin Badgers will play for the fourth time in the
Outback Bowl (formerly "Hall of Fame Bowl"), after officially
accepting the invitation on Wednesday. "Our entire team is
excited to be returning to Florida for our fourth straight
January bowl game," Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema said today.
So far Wisconsin have lost the Outback Bowl twice to Georgia
(1998, 2005) and have won once against Duke in 1995. "We knew
we wanted Wisconsin badly. We love that team. That's the kind of
team you want. The football team is really good and tough and
hard-nosed. They're 9-3, highly ranked in the BCS, beat
Michigan. They have everything you want in a New Year's Day
college football bowl team - the fans, the cheerleaders, the
band, the atmosphere, everything. The Badgers just have it all
when it comes to being a great bowl team," said bowl's
president Jim McVay.
The 2008 Outback Bowl will take place on
January 1st at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. At this
point the opponent of the Badgers remains unknown. Wisconsin
could face the loser of the SEC game between LSU and Tennessee,
as well as, Florida or Auburn. Last year's Outback Bowl saw Penn
State beating Tennessee 20-10. The minimum payout for a
participating school is $3 million.
