U.K. bookmakers
save on White Xmas, still pay out
The British bookmakers were
saved from paying out right figures, but still hurt by wet
Christmas.
Although
White Christmas gamblers were out of luck, saving bookies an
eight figure payout, they were still soaked by shrewd punters
cashing in on a wet Christmas. "Although the White Christmas
odds drifted badly out to 100/1 by Christmas Eve and there was
never a genuine hope of it happening, the odds about a Wet
Christmas collapsed from 6/4 to 1/5 and smart backers are
celebrating a seven figure payout" said William Hill spokesman
Graham Sharpe. "We are already offering 10/1 a London White
Christmas, 8/1 in Cardiff and Glasgow - but only Even money a
wet one - for 2008".
Meanwhile Will Hill shows us what a £10 bet
could do - a £10 accumulative bet that during 2007: Charlotte
Church would become pregnant (6/1), Jose Mourinho would leave
Chelsea (5/1), Ming Campbell would cease to lead the Lib Dems
(5/1), Frankie Dettori would win the Derby (4/1), David Beckham
would play for England (7/2) and Louis Walsh would quit the X
Factor (2/1) would have won £170,100 from William Hill. "Plenty
of punters backed one or more of these eventualities but
fortunately no-one bet on all of them!" said Hills spokesman
Graham Sharpe as Hills unveiled their bets for 2008.
