UFC 79 Results: Liddell vs. Silva, all fights The UFC 79 fights are over and here are the results from all the fights. We start right away with the jewel of the UFC 79 bouts - Liddell vs. Silva. Surprise only for the bookmakers, the underdog Chuck Liddell won the fight by decision, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27 after a nice fight between the UFC and Pride champs. Chuck Liddell entered the ring underdog at Bodog Sports with odds on winning the fight at +115 and the odds on his contender Wanderlei Silva sat at -145 before the fight. Liddell was more active in the first round, opened a few cracks on Silva's face and blood was spilled, but Wanderlei took the second round into his own hands and returned the favor, knocking down Liddell once with a punch. With the fight slipping away, Liddell took absolute control in the third round, beating Silva hard, but both fighters stood tall and the final result of the fight had to be by decision - Chuck Liddell was the winner and the bettors were paid 230 on every 200 bet.

The result of the other main UFC fight, Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Hughes, was long awaited by fans of each fighter. This was the third time the two have met on the ring, sharing one victory each in the two fights before. This time the odds makers were right on the money - Georges St. Pierre won this UFC 79 fight in the second round by submission, he was -200 favorite to win at Bodog Sports. Since the start of the bout it was clear that it was Pierre's night and he was the better fighter and Matt Hughes spent more time on the ground than on his feet. In the second round Hughes found himself in an arm bar with no chance of release, resulting in Georges St. Pierre's second victory over Matt Hughes. After the fight Pierre promoted his upcoming fight with Matt Serra by throwing his Welterweight belt and declared that he needs to beat Serra to become the real champion. That UFC fight is coming in the first half of 2008.

Jordan Radev vs. Dean Lister - Lister won the UFC fight by unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
Roan Carneiro vs. Tony DeSouza - Roan Carneiro won by TKO in the second round.
Mark Bocek vs. Doug Evans - Mark Bocek won the fight by unanimous decision 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
