Washington
Wizards beat Boston Celtics back to back
The Boston Celtics lose 88-83
to the Washington Wizards for the second time in three days.
On
Monday night the Washington Wizards did what many though
impossible - victory over the Boston Celtics for the second time
in three days, this time at TD Banknorth Garden. The Wizards
upset the Celtics with a 88-83 final score, with Caron Butler
netting 21 points and Antawn Jamison added 20 points and 10
rebounds for the Wizards. The victory of Washington was also
upsetting for the bookmakers, at the online sportsbook
Bodog Sports, the point spread
on the Washington Wizards vs. Boston Celtics was posted at -12
points chalk the Celtics before the start of the game.
And with less than 7 minutes on the clock,
it seemed as the Celtics were going to cover the spread, leading
the Wizards 77-63. But somehow the Wizards went on to 19-4 run
to take an 82-81 lead with 40.1 seconds remaining capped off by
a Butler lay in and foul shot after being fouled by Kendrick
Perkins. Then Kevin Garnett missed a 3-pointer, but Paul Pierce
was fouled on the rebound and put both free throws to regain the
lead for Boston at 83-82. Kevin Garnett missed again and Caron
Butler got the rebound for a couple of free throws and a 86-83
lead with 8.3 seconds remaining. Ray Allen missed a 3-point
attempt for an equalizer and DeShawn Stevenson set the final
88-83 score with two free throws.
Next the Boston Celtics will meet the Trail
Blazers on Wednesday and the Washington Wizards will play the
Knicks on Tuesday. Despite the loss, the Celtics remain the
favorite to win the NBA Championship with odds 6/5 at
Bodog Sports, while the Wizards
are still underdog with odds 70/1 at the bookie.
