Redskins hire Jim Zorn as new head coach
Washington Redskins will
replace Joe Gibbs, who retired in January, with Jim Zorn.
The
Washington Redskins have found a replacement for the recently
retired head coach Joe Gibbs. After a month-long search, the
Redskins have decided to make just-hired offensive coordinator
Jim Zorn the new head coach. The team announced on Saturday that
the newly hired offensive coordinator has been promoted to head
coach and has signed a five-year contract. "I've always
dreamed of being a head coach with a franchise rich in tradition
like the Redskins. As a player who had to fight Redskins teams
at RFK as well as at our home field, I know about the history of
this franchise as well as the passion of its fans. I won't let
you down," read the official statement made by Jim Zorn,
following the news.
Jim Zorn was hired to replace offensive
coordinator Al Saunders two weeks ago from the Seattle Seahawks,
where he was the quarterback coach for the last seven years.
Zorn, however, has never worked as a coordinator of an NFL team
before, nor as a coach, but after Giants defensive coordinator
Spagnuolo declined the Redskins bid, owner Dan Snyder offered
the job to Zorn. He will be officially introduced to the team on
Sunday.
