Sam Peter beats
Oleg Maskaev in six rounds for the title
Nigerian
boxer Sam Peter (30-1, 23 KO’s) delivered a TKO last night
against Kazakhstan's WBO Champion Oleg Maskaev (34-6, 26 KO’s)
in the sixth round. Peter delivered a series of power
punches in the sixth round, which forced the referee to stop the
fight at 2:56 into the Round 6. Oleg Maskaev didn’t protest the
stoppage and Sam Peter celebrated his victory over the WBO
Champ. The fight was tilting towards Peter from the very
beginning, the Nigeria native winning the first and second
rounds without any problems. In the third and fourth Maskaev
"woke up" and managed to land a reputable series of punches, but
in the fifth Peter was back in the game with series of punches.
Oleg Maskaev held up until the sixth round , when a barrage of
combination shots, followed by a series of power punches gave
Sam Peter the WBO title.
The fight results was hardly a surprise
to any, nonetheless for the bookmakers. At the online sportsbook
BodogLife Sam Peter was the
ultimate favorite to win the fight with odds -450 and Oleg
Maskaev was the underdog with odds +300. Bettors also predicted
a TKO victory - the Samuel Peter vs. Oleg Maskaev fight was
favorite to go under 7.5 rounds with odds -165. Next Saturday is
the WBC Super Featherweight Title fight between Manny Pacquiao
and Juan Manuel Marquez, the bookie is favoring Pacquiao at -180
and Juan Manuel Marquez is listed as the underdog with odds
+140.
