Gov. Eliot
Spitzer prostitution scandal: Client 9 at Emperors Club VIP
New
York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been caught arranging to meet
with a high-priced Emperors Club VIP prostitute last month.
According to the latest reports, Gov. Eliot Spitzer was caught
on federal tapped telephone call confirming plans to have a
woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved
a hotel room. The man soliciting prostitution was using the code
name "Client 9", which was later identified as Governor Eliot
Spitzer.
The man described as Client 9 in court
papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the
prostitution ring under surveillance, Emperors Club VIP, on the
night of February 13th. The affidavit says that Client 9 met
with the woman in hotel room 871 but the name of the hotel has
been withheld. According to a person told of Mr. Spitzer's
travel arrangements, the Governor stayed at the Mayflower Hotel
in Washington on that night, but room 871 was reserved under a
different name that night. The New York Sun is reporting that
the prostitution Emperors Club VIP ring had call girls that
charged as much as $5,500 per hour.
Federal prosecutor arrested four people
in connection with the high-priced prostitution ring and
although clients are rarely charged in these circumstances, the
Mann Act, which addresses prostitution and human trafficking,
makes it a crime to transport someone between states for the
purpose of prostitution. Meanwhile Fox News is reporting that
the governor will resign, citing sources close to Eliot Spitzer.
"I have acted in a way that violates
my obligation to my family and violates my or any sense of right
or wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I
apologize to the public to whom I promised better. I have
disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of
myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my
family," Gov. Eliot Spitzer said in a statement earlier
today, but did not address his political future.
Political analysts in the media are
already seeing Eliot Spitzer's prostitution scandal as bad news
to Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, with whom
Mr. Spitzer has strong ties. Despite having no relation with
Eliot Spitzer's private life, the odds makers at the online
sportsbook
BodogLife have lengthened the
odds on Hillary Clinton to win the presidential race in November
to the whopping 11/4, miles away from the favorite fellow
Democrat Barack Obama, who is holding odds of 11/10.
