Atlantic City
casinos show improvement in February
The
11 casinos in Atlantic City had an increase of the monthly
revenue to show on the accounting sheets for the month of
February. The monthly revenue in February increased by 1.5%
compared to the same month last year, an increase largely
credited to the leap year, giving the casinos an extra day of
gambling. Regardless, the report of increased monthly revenue
was welcome, effectively ending the 10-month losing streak the
11 casinos in Atlantic City have had so far.
The casinos took in the total of $384.1
million in February, with slots revenues up by a mere 0.1% to
$264.6 million, while revenue from table games was up 4.9% at
$119.5 million. For the first two months of the year, the
casinos' total revenue was $739.1 million, down 4.4 percent from
the first two months of 2007. Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino was
the biggest winner in February with revenues increase of
13.8%, followed by Harrah's Atlantic City up 6% and the Showboat
Casino Hotel with 5.8% revenue increase in February. The biggest
