War Pass out of
the Kentucky Derby due to injury
One
of the favorite contenders in the 2008 Kentucky Derby, "War
Pass", will not take part in the competition due to an injury.
War Pass, the 2007 champion two-year-old male and Bessemer Trust
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner, will not start in the
Kentucky Derby, because of a fractured sesamoid in his left
front ankle. "It’s at the back of the ankle, and it pulled
away from the sesamoid. t’s very small. In fact, [Rick Fischer,
D.V.M] took the picture again and had a technician look at the
digital images because there’s no swelling there. He’s actually
walking sound," War Pass trainer Nick Zito said, also adding
that the injury could sideline the Kentucky Derby favorite for a
few months.
The British online bookmaker
Bet 365 had War Pass listed
with odds 6/1 to win the 2008 Kentucky Derby, while at the
North-American faced sportsbook
BetUS the odds were +650. Even
though War Pass will not race in the 2008 Kentucky Derby, the
top three favorites remain the same - Big Brown with odds 5/2 at
Bet365 and +200 at BetUS, with Pyro and Colonel John sharing
odds 5/1 at the British bookie (Colonel John is +400 at BetUS
and Pyro is +650). Keep in mind that the 2007 Kentucky Derby
winner Street Sense was listed 7/1 just a day before the start
of the race.
