Small Chicago
mobster sentenced for illegal gambling
Dennis Johnson, 37, was sentenced today to 6 months in federal
prison for his part in an illegal gambling ring in Chicago.
Johnson pleaded guilty to being a route man for M&M Amusement
Inc., a company that converted regular video games to gambling
devices and placed them in local bars at the direction of
alleged mob boss James Marcello and his brother, Michael. U.S.
District Judge James B. Zagel handed the 6-month sentence, the
minimum allowed, after noting the progress Johnson made since
pleading guilty last year. Since the gambling gofer was just a
small fish, the prosecutors did not press for higher sentence.
