casinos gambling revenue up a point in June
The
casinos in Mississippi showed an increase in gambling revenue of
about 1% in June, compare to May, the numbers released by the
State Tax Commission showed. According to the report, the
Mississippi casinos posted $237.8 million in gambling revenue in
June, up $2 million compared to the previous month, with the
coastal casinos mostly contributing to the increase. The
Mississippi River casinos took in $121.1 million, down $7.2
million from May, while the coastal gambling market was up about
$9.2 million to $116.6 million. Adding the numbers for June, the
Mississippi casinos gambling revenue for the first six months of
the year totaled $1.4 billion.
Meanwhile it was also announced that
Riverwalk Casino and Hotel may open earlier than expected. The
fifth Vicksburg casino resort won Mississippi Gaming Commission
approval Thursday for a gaming license, the last regulatory step
necessary to open the gambling venue. The $100 million casino
project was scheduled to be completed in November, but according
to management, the construction and preparations for the opening
are ahead of schedule and the casino could open its doors in
early October. According to CEO Greg Carlin, the new casino will
feature 805 slot machines and 18 gambling tables.
