WNBA fight: Sparks
victory tarnished by brawl, video
A nasty brawl tarnished the WNBA game in Detroit last
night, the Los Angeles Sparks won 84-81 against the Detroit
Shock, but the fight at the end would be what people will
remember. A brawl erupted less than 5 seconds before the end of
the Sparks - Shock WNBA game last night, which led to the
ejection of three players and Detroit's assistant coach Rick
Mahorn. The brawl began when L.A.'s Candace Parker and Detroit's
Cheryl Ford had to be separated, after Ford fouled Parker.
But on the following possession Shock's
Plenette Pierson tangled up with Parker, intentionally running
into her and setting off the brawl. Candace Parker threw a punch
at Pierson before being tackled by Detroit's Deanna Nolan.
Players and coaches from both teams joined in, and Mahorn
knocked Lisa Leslie to the court at one point. "To be honest,
I don't recall exactly what happened. I'll have to watch the
tape," Parker was quoted saying later that night. DeLisha
Milton-Jones shoved and punched Mahorn after the incident with
Leslie, and was ejected, along with Mahorn, Parker and Pierson.
Nolan and Shannon Bobbitt received technical. You can watch the
