No sports betting at Windsor during 2009 Final Four

The Caesars Windsor casino in Canada will halt basketball sports bets during the week ending on April 6th, while across the Windsor Tunnel Detroit will host the NCAA 2009 Final Four. The cease of sports betting at the Canadian casino comes after a request was made by the NCAA to stop the what is legal college basketball betting while the championship is taking place in Detroit. The Windsor casino has agreed to the request and will stop betting on college basketball of taking place at the gambling establishment during the Final Four week. "As you know, sports books are only located in a few, select cities, and given the closer proximity this year, the request of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. was a proactive move to ensure a Final Four environment that is free of college sports wagering," a spokesman for the NCAA was quoted.

Sports betting is already illegal in Michigan, as well as most of the states in the country. The news that Windsor will not take sports bets on the NCAA Final Four is likely welcomed by the illegal bookies, as well as the offshore sportsbooks, who will come in to fill in the void left by the Canadian casino.
