Kentucky Derby Day - Street Sense and Curlin with
best odds
Today is the day - the 2007
Kentucky Derby starts tonight and we take a last look at betting
odds for the contenders of the 133rd race.
Steve Assmusen's Curlin
continues to hold the best odds to win the Kentucky Derby with
$7 for every $2. The winner of the Arkansas Derby in April is
training very well on the Churchill Downs, and the online
bookmaker
Bodog, just as many others,
still believe that Curling will be the one.
Street Sense, which many
believe is jinxed after winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last
year, still holds the second best odds at 4/1. No horse has won
the Kentucky Derby after winning the Juvenile Cup, but there is
no real reason or explanation for this, therefore the bookmakers
continue to hold Street Sense as one of the favorites to win the
Derby, and maybe make history.
Nobiz Like Shobiz and Circular
Quay (one of the five horses of Todd Pletcher) are holding
steady their 8/1 betting odds. Any Given Saturday is most often
chosen as the long shot for the Kentucky Derby by many experts,
the odds are 12/1.
Currently the weather over
Louisville Kentucky is cloudy with showers moving in. The
weather prognosis is for showers and thunderstorms throughout
the day, which would make for a damp track at the Kentucky
Derby, however, it seems that the drainage system of Churchill
Downs is of the highest quality, and it would not affect the
horses all that much. We saw yesterday the horses achieving
pretty good times at the Kentucky Oaks, when the track was also
damp, thus many experts rule out the weather being a factor for
the 133rd Kentucky Derby.
The 2007 Kentucky Derby post
time is at 6:04 p.m. EST.
