Illegal casino operated in train cars
The police in Cherokee County,
South Carolina discovered an illegal casino which was run in two
remodeled train cars.
The
deputies served a search warrant and confiscated 119 slot
machines and $15,000 in cash from the passenger cars. There were
four passenger train cars on the spur line, two of which had
been converted for use in the gambling operation, according to
deputies. The cars were not attached to any engine.
Investigators said that the owner told them that he believed
because the spur was federal property, it was legal to have
gambling at the location. Deputies said that the spur is private
property, so the dispute is expected to end up in court.
Nineteen people were cited
with illegal gambling and a female employee is expected to be
charged with operating the illegal casino.
