Pearce sacked by Manchester City, Jewell resigns
from Wigan
It seems to be a bad week for managers of
clubs from the Premiership as both Man City and Wigan lost one
on Monday.
After two years in charge, the 45 years old coach Stuart Pearce
was sacked by Manchester City's board of directors. Pearce found
his contract was terminated with immediate effect a day after
the end of the season. Pearce took the reins from Kevin Keegan
as the Man City manager and was off to a good start in his first
season as the manager of the club. City went as high as forth
place in the beginning but soon things went downhill and they
finished the 05/06 season 15th. After Manchester City lost to
Tottenham at the end of the season, Pearce himself admited that
his days at City may be numbered. Stuart Pearce is not
unemployed, though, as he took the management of England's
Under-21 team in February.

Paul Jewell, on the other side, resigned as wigan boos less than
a day after saving the team from relegation, beating Sheffield
United 2-1 on Sunday. Jewell, who joined Wigan in 2001, is
stirring rumours that a future job at Manchester City could be
in line for him, bout niether sides have commented on the issue,
and Wigan's chairman Dave Whelan said that Jewell has assured
him that there is no offers from Man City. Paul Jewell justifies
his resignation with healt issues, claiming he would need a
break from football management to recharge his batteries. The
biggest achievement of Wigan under Jewell is probably reaching
the Carling Cup final.
