Rugby Union: Scotland A to come out strong
against USA
Scotland boss Frank Hadden has picked 10 full
caps to face the USA team on Wednesday which sparked the critics
of USA Rugby chief Nigel Melville.
Melville
expressed concern that the Churchill Cup is not about top
players but for development of young stars. Frank Hadden
responded by saying that 26 players are resting for the World
Cup, and the fact that he has a strong A team should not be held
against him. He also added that the last year he was only minus
24 players.
Nigel Melville, a former England player and
now boss of the USA Rugby, is pointing out a few full time
internationals on the Scottish A team, and is accusing Hadden of
stopping others with less experienced players having a shot at
the Churchill Cup.
The Churchill Cup is for the A teams of
England, Scotland and Ireland, and the New Zealand, USA and
Canada lining-up their strongest teams. Last year Scotland A
team reached the Churchill Cup final in Canada, but were beaten
by New Zealand Maori. USA lost 3-51 to English Saxons in the
opening match of the tournament last Friday.
