After the start of the 2007 French Open was delayed for nearly three hours today, the games matches did finally start.

French Open: Serena Williams odds to win 4/1This made for a very short day at the French Open, when only 7 out of the scheduled 24 matches began.

Serena Williams is not the favorite to win the French Open this year. She was given the odds of 4/1 by the British online bookmaker Bet365 (new window). The favorite to win Roland Garros, according to the betting site, is still Justine Henin with odds 2.37.

Henin won over Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-4, 6-3, but Serena William's match was delayed, due to the weather. Williams recovered to beat Tsvetana Pironkova 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 and move to the second round, as well. The clay at the French Open proved difficult for Serena and she showed none of the form Williams exhibited in Australia. The match of Serena Williams' sister, Venus, was postponed until tomorrow.
