Dettori inflicts the biggest wound on bookmakers

Frankie Dettori won the Epsom Downs putting a lot of bookmakers on red.

Dettori inflicts the biggest wound on bookmakersBookmakers were licking their wounds after Frankie Dettori inflicted a £50 million pound mauling on them, with William Hill saying that it was the industry's worst day financially since Frankie rode all seven winners at Ascot in September 1996 - a record breaking feat which became known as the Magnificent Seven, and cost the bookies a total of £40million.

'Frankie is as popular as Derby legend Lester Piggott was - and then some' said Hill's spokesman Sharpe. 'The only good news is that we have been making money out of people backing him unsuccessfully to win the Derby for the last 14 years - but now he has done it and I think they've all won their money back with interest.'
