Gold Cup: USA to
meet Canada in the semi-finals
The USA football team won 2-1
against Panama in the Gold-Cup quarterfinal on Saturday.
After
gaining a two-goal lead, the US team seemed to struggle to keep
the advantage, despite gaining a man advantage. Landon Donovan
(58') with a penalty kick and Carlos Bocanegra (62')scored
within a few minutes from each other to give the US team the
lead.
Third was hard to accomplish after the Americans went
defensive and gave away a late goal to Panama by Blas Perez,
which indicated that the defence of the US football team needs
some work before they meet Canada on Thursday in Chicago. The
Canadian team advanced to the Gold Cup semi-finals with a 3-0
victory over Guatemala on Saturday.
On Sunday, the 17th, are the other two
games of the Gold Cup quarter finals. In the first game Mexico
will meet Costa Rica at 2:00pm CT. The second game will be
between the football internationals of Honduras and Guadeloupe
at 5:00pm CT. Both games will be played in Houston. Note, flood
warnings have been issued for most of the state of Texas due to
severe thunderstorms.
