UEFA will
investigate Serbia U21 racism remarks
Racist remarks pointed at
England-U21 Nedum Onuoha by Serbian fans made Uefa open
disciplinary proceedings.
According
to allegations, in the Championship match between the U21 of
England and Serbia, fans from the Slavic team had made racial
remarks to England's Nedum Onuoha. Conduct of the Serbian
players will also be investigated after Justin Hoyte was
targeted in the tunnel by opposition players. Uefa
representatives said they will look into the behavior of the
English players, as well.
From a released statement from Uefa: "In
regard to alleged racist chanting, we will instigate proceedings
against the FSS (Serbian Football Association) over the
misconduct of their supporters. Proceedings will also be
instigated against the FSS for the improper conduct of their
players on two occasions: following England's second goal and
after the match. Uefa will also commence proceedings against the
Football Association for the improper conduct of the England
players after the match."
England U21 won the game 2-0 and qualified for
the European Championship semi-finals. The other three quarter
final games will be played this week and are:
