Takeru "Tsunami"
Kobayashi out of the hot dog eating contest
The Japanese hot-dog eating
champion has been diagnosed with jaw arthritis and will miss the
famous 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest on New York's Coney
Island.
Believe it or not, some people actually train for a hot dog
eating contest. And the five time winner of the Nathan's Famous
July Fourth Hot Dog Eating Contest, Takeru Kobayashi, has
injured himself during practice. Kobayashi says he can only
open his mouth to make a gap the size of a fingertip, after he
was diagnosed by doctors with a form of jaw joint disorder.
"Tsunami" Kobayashi last year put down a
world-record 53 and 3/4 hot-dogs in just 12 minutes. He has
become a celebrity in Japan and the US and also holds a world
record for scoffing cows' brains.
The news of Kobayashi's absence from the
Nathan's Famous July 4th Hot Dog Eating Contest is a big blow to
many bettors. The online betting website
Bodog Sports offered betting
props on the hot-dog eating contest, but Kobayashi and Chestnut
must start the competition for action, which makes betting there
a bust.
Many British sportsbooks, such as
Bet365 no longer offer odds on
the Nathan's Hot Dog Contest. Betting odds on the contest also
seem to have disappeared from the Internet betting site
Sportsbook.com, as well. Obviously without Kobayashi this
betting event is a no-go.
