Copa America
Results: Venezuela 2-2 with Bolivia at the openers
The host of Copa-America,
Venezuela, did not succeed in holding the score and ended 2-2
with Bolivia.
Copa America is being played in Venezuela for the first time.
And Venezuela was aiming for its first Copa America victory
since 1967, when it beat Bolivia 3-0, hoping to repeat the same
result in the 2007 openers.
Venezuela opened the scoring in the 20th minute, when
Maldonado fired a shot past the diving Bolivian keeper. But
own-goal deflection after Jaime Moreno shot in the 38th helped
Bolivia to 1-1 in the first half. Midfielder Ricardo Paez scored
for Venezuela in the 55th minute, and the Copa America host
looked set for the victory. But seven minutes before the end of
the game, Bolivian Juan Carlos Arce put one in the net from the
right, for a final 2-2 draw.
Earlier Peru unexpectedly won against
Uruguay 3-0. Uruguay is tied with Argentina for the most Copa
America victories at 14.
