Mohamed Sissoko
signs long-term with Liverpool
The Reds secured a four-year
deal with the Mali midfielder Mohamed Sissoko on Thursday.
Sissoko
is the fifth player to extend his contract with Liverpool.
Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Jose Reina are the
other players, recently committed their long-term future to the
Premiership club.
Sissoko joined Liverpool in the summer
of 2005 from Valencia and was a regular in his first season, but
after an eye injury last season, he faced increased competition
for his place after the January signing of Javier Mascherano
from West Ham. The new contract will put and end to all
speculations linking the 22-year-old Sissiko with transfers to
other clubs.
Liverpool is also set to sign Bulgarian
goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov from Levski Sofia and Athletic
Bilbao defender Mikel San Jose. Rumours also say that Atletico
Madrid for striker Fernando Torres could be the next to sign
with Liverpool.
In their first Premiership match the
upcoming season, Liverpool will visit Aston Villa on August
11th. The odds on that match according to U.K.'s bookmaker
Bet365 are 1/1 on Liverpool
winning the game, 12/5 on Aston Villa and 11/5 on draw.
