Roger Federer to
the Wimbledon quarterfinals
Roger Federer secured a spot
for the 2007 Wimbledon quarterfinals without a play, after his
opponent Tommy Haas withdrew from the competition due to injury.
A
lucky break for Roger Federer when Tommy Haas withdrew from the
Wimbledon on Sunday with a torn stomach muscle. The 13th-seeded
Tommy Haas was scheduled to play Federer on Monday. Because the
very disappointer Haas withdrew from the tournament before the
game, Federer will get no credit for a victory and his record
will stay at 31 straight wins at Wimbledon.
Timmy Haas received the injury during
his Friday match against Dmitry Tursunov, and is expected to be
sidelined for at least a month. The 29-year-old German has been
plagued by injuries in the last few years, and the 2007
Wimbledon was first tournament since he left during the opener
of the Masters Series event in May with a shoulder injury.
In the last eight, Federer will face
either Juan Carlos Ferrero or Janko Tipsarevic.
Roger Federer continues to be the
bookmakers' favorite to win the 2007 Wimbledon outright.
According to the U.K. sportsbook
Bet365 online, Roger Federer
has the odds on winning at 2/7, followed by Rafael Nadal with
odds 9/2. The betting odds on Andy Roddick have been upgraded to
12/1 from 14/1 previously.
