Eriksson
officially employed with Manchester City
Man City officially
confirmed the three-year deal with Sven-Goran Eriksson.
The
Swede signed a three-year deal with Manchester City to manage
the club on Friday, after a month of rumours and gossips. The
former Thailand Premier Thaksin Shinawatra finally closed the
deal on gaining 75% of the club's ownership and he wasted no
time to sign Eriksson to succeed Stuart Pearce as manager of
Manchester City.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, 59, has been out of
the football arena since stepping down from England after the
last World Cup finals. But Eriksson was eager to get back to
coaching and spend the last few days at Eastlands, meeting
players and working on his strategy to rebuild the squad. This
is the first time Eriksson is employed by a Premier League club.
"I am absolutely delighted and honoured
to have been asked to be Manchester City's manager. This is an
exciting challenge and I have already started making
preparations for the new season. I want to deliver a team that
our fantastic fans can be proud of," Eriksson was quoted on the
official Manchester City website. The club's management also
expressed delight to have the Swede with City.
The contract was signed after Thaksin Shinawatra announced, that
all objections from the Manchester City board of directors
against his take-over, have been waived and he gained the
control of the football club through his company UK Sports
Investments Ltd.
