British Open Day One: Tiger Woods still in the game

The Day One of the 2007 British Open is underway, Tiger Woods is tied 7 with 2 under.

British Open Day One: Tiger Woods still in the game Tiger Woods is still in the game, as he battles for his third straight British Open win. Woods shot 2-under-par 69 to tie for the 7th with K.J. Choi and Steward Cink. Nothing out of the ordinary, as Tiger Woods usually does a lower score at the opening rounds, while he adjust his game to the course. "Given the conditions, I'm always happy with that. The back nine is tough," Tiger Woods said after the opening round of the 2007 British Open.

The weather is a big problem for many golfers at the 2007 British Open, including Woods, who had to wear a bundle of clothes to fight the chill at the Carnoustie, with the highest temperature for Thursday at only 57F (14C). There will be no break tomorrow either, with a forecast for Friday to reach 60F tops.

At publishing time (2:00pm EST, 7:00pm BST) Sergio Garcia was the lone leader at the 2007 British Open, shooting 5 under par after the 16th. Paul McGinley held second position with -4 67, and tied for third are Michael Campbell, Markus Brier, Angel Cabrera and Rory McIlroy, all with 3-under par 68.

Angel Cabrera (on the picture above), the defending US Open champion, got off to a great start at the British Open, and is proving to the critics that he is a major force to be reckon with. The Argentinean's round contained four birdies as opposed to just one bogey, at the 12th. Odds on Angel Cabrera to win the 2007 British Open are set at 40/1 by the online betting website Bodog Sports. The current leader Sergio Garcia has the odds 33/1 and Tiger Woods remains the favorite with betting odds of only 3/1 on winning his third straight British Open.
