Ricky Hatton to
face Floyd Mayweather later this year
A verbal deal has been struck
between Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton for a bout later this
year.
The
father of Ricky Hatton, Ray, is claiming that a verbal contract
has been struck between his son and Floyd Mayweather for a fight
later this year. No signature have been put on paper yet, but
the lawyers of the two fighters have agreed on the financial
side of the deal, and the fight will likely take place towards
the end of 2007, with most likely dates November 10th or
December 8th in Las Vegas.
Ricky Hatton demolished Jose Luis Castillo
for the IBO lightweight title in June 24th and announced his
desire to fight Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather on the other side
initially insisted that his victory over Oscar de la Hoya last
month would be his final bout. But his representatives flew
Ricky Hatton and his lawyer to Vegas last week for the Bernard
Hopkins - Winky Wright fight, and to talk about a future bout
between Hatton and Mayweather.
Ray Hatton said the negotiations last week
left the two sides far apart on the financial side of the fight,
but a deal has been finally reached over the phone in recent
days. It's been speculated that Ricky Hatton will bulk up to
meet Floyd Mayweather at higher higher weight.
