Uncle Kracker
arrested on sex charge in North Carolina
Matthew Shafer, a.k.a. "Uncle
Kracker", has been arrested in North Carolina on sexual offense
charge.
The
country singer and former DJ for Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, has
been arrested in North Carolina on a second-degree sex offense
charge. According to the police, 26-year-old woman, name
withheld, has accused Uncle Kracker, real name Matthew Shafer,
of committing a sexual act against her at the Ess Lounge, a
Raleigh, N.C. night club.
Following the allegations, the police
got a warrant and he was arrested in his hotel room in suburban
Cary. Currently Shafer is held at the Wake County Jail on a $5
million bond after being deemed a "flight risk" and is scheduled
to appear in court this afternoon. Unconfirmed reports indicate
that his bail was later reduced to $75,000.
Uncle Kracker, originally from Michigan,
started his career as DJ for Kid Rock and then launched his own
music career with a few hits, blending rock, rap and country.
He is also known for his 2004 #1 country hit "When the Sun Goes
Down", a duet with singer Kenny Chesney. By his third album all
hip-hop elements were abandoned and Uncle Kracker went on to
blending only blues and country in his songs.
