NASCAR: 3M
Performance 400 in Brooklyn, MI, cancelled
The NASCAR Nextel Cup race in
Brooklyn, Michigan, has been delayed until Monday due to rain.
A
steady rain at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn,
Mich. on Sunday forced NASCAR to postpone the 3M Performance 400
until Monday, 12:00pm EST. But the weather forecast is calling
for more rain on Monday, as well, and there is a real chance
that the NASCAR race may be delayed further until Tuesday
morning or even later into the next week.
The possibility for further delays of
the 3M Performance 400 due to the rain in Michigan could be a
potential organization disaster, as the Nextel Cup transporters
are due in Tennessee on Thursday afternoon to set up for
Saturday night’s Sharpie 500.
When asked what would happen if the
weather over Brooklyn Michigan doe snot improve soon, NASCAR
spokesman Ramsey Poston said that they would have to cancel the
race and re-schedule it the weekend after Thanksgiving, making
it the last race on the schedule. If this happen, it would also
make the Michigan race the final event of the 10-race Chase for
the championship.
The cancellation of the Nextel Cup race
at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. on
Sunday came just 45 minutes after it was scheduled to begin and
left thousands of fans disappointed, but hoping that tomorrow
the weather would improve enough to see a start of the 3M
Performance 400.
Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards are favorite to
win the 3M Performance 400, both with odds 4/1, as posted by the
online bookmaker
Bodog Sports.
