Fred Thompson to
announce presidential bid next week
Former Tennessee senator Fred
Thompson will make his presidential quest official on September
6th.
Fred Thompson finally ended the suspense surrounding his
presidential candidacy and on Thursday said that he will
officially declare his bid on September 6th via a webcast on his
website at www.imwithfred.com. The former Tennessee senator will
tour Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina after his candidacy
for Republican presidential nominee is official, despite the
fact that he has already began informal campaigning, which was
often referred to as "testing the waters". He has ranked second
in most of the GOP polls, beaten only by the former NY mayor
Rudy Giuliani
"I believe that there are millions of
Americans who know that our security and prosperity are at risk
if we don’t address the challenges of our time; the global
threat of terrorism; taxes and spending that will bankrupt
future generations, and a government that can’t seem to get the
most basic responsibilities right for its citizens. The response
that we've received makes me confident that we have an
opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the
country," read a statement from Thompson.
Fred Thompson will be in Iowa on
September 6th, 7th and 8th, then New Hampshire on the 8th and
9th and on September 10th he will stop at Charleston and
Columbia, South Carolina.
Of course the oddsmakers have long
declared Fred Thompson a presidential candidate on their books.
The online betting website
Bodog Sports has listed
Thompson as one of the favorites to win the GOP presidential
nomination as early as June, with current odds 2/1, trailing
behind Giuliani with odds 11/10. Fred Thompson is also a top
contender to become the next President listed fourth at 6/1.
