was shot death on Monday by his girlfriend's neighbor. According
to the police, Jeffrey Albrecht was trying to kick in the door
of his girlfriend's neighbor, who mistaken the Edie Brickell &
New Bohemians keyboard player for a burglar and fired his
handgun through the door. The bullet hit Albrecht in the head
and he died at the scene.
It all started around 4:00 am on Monday,
when the neighbor, who remains unidentified, was awaken by his
wife screaming that a burglar was trying to get in. The neighbor
yelled through the door for Albrecht to leave, but the musician
continued to pound on the door. The scared man fired his gun
through the door, fatally wounding Jeffrey Albrecht, who died
minutes later. No arrests have been made and the case is under
investigation.
According to reports, Jeffrey Albrecht
was drunk and beat up his girlfriend that night and in a rage
tried to knock down the neighbor's door. Although the couple has
no history of domestic violence, the police confirms that she
had bruises on her face, but did not suffer serious injuries.
She managed to lock him out of the house after the fight, which
led to the fatal shooting.
Jeffrey Carter Albrecht is mostly known under his middle
name as "Carter Albrecht". He has been a member of the Edie
Brickell & New Bohemians since October of 1999 and also played
for Sorta. Before his untimely death, Carter Albrecht was
working on a solo album.
