San Francisco
49ers football betting odds
All eyes on young
quarterback Alex Smith as the San Francisco 49ers enter the 2007
football season.
Regardless
of how you view the San Francisco 49ers, 2006 football season
was a real improvement for the team. Although the Niners
finished last season with a 7-9 record, it was much better than
the total of six wins in the previous two years combined. The
team remains far from being a favorite to win the division, but
the young quarterback Alex Smith has shown maturity and
playmaking skills and we may see quite a game from the 49ers
this season.
The departure of Norv Turner to the
Chargers sure was a hit on the San Francisco 49ers, hopefully
the new offensive coordinator Jim Hostler will be able to
"cultivate" Alex Smith and enable his professional growth.
Ashley Lelie and Darrel Jackson arrived in the offseason to the
Niners, TE Vernon Davis is back with the team after his broken
leg kept him on the sidelines most of the 2006 season and Frank
Gore remains one of the best all-around offensive weapon in the
league. The acquisition of Tully Banta-Cain and Aubrayo Franklin
beefed up the San Francisco 49ers defense, which ranked 26th
last football season.
The last two preseason games did not go
the Niners way, the San Diego Chargers built up a 10-point lead
and held on for a 16-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Shaun
Hill hooked up on a 21-yard pass to Zach Hilton for the 49ers'
touchdown, and Joe Nedney kicked two field goals in a losing
effort. And in the prior football preseason game, the San
Francisco 49ers scored 15 points in the fourth quarter during
the third week of preseason action, but they fell 31-28 to the
Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Trent Dilfer was 9-for-12 for 99
yards and two touchdowns, while Jason Hill caught a nine-yard
pass for a major for the 49ers.
